The HTML5 vs. Silverlight announcment profoundly sucked, especially when it can be readily seen that the two are not the same - i.e. they should have been promoted as complementary rather than competitive. What really concerns me though is that I'm hearing nothing about the larger picture, by which I mean, where to after .Net 4.0 - is there anything? Not only is there no signal, there's not even noise. And this harms adoption. Especially the case of Silverlight/WPF and how it relates to HTML5.
